With the Angry Dragons slot, developer GameArt returns to the Asian niche, once again taking players on an adventure to the Far East. As the title implies, the game revolves around the mighty Chinese celestial beasts, which is quite a typical theme, but the features laid down here are fun and provide fairly entertaining gameplay with massive rewards up for grabs.

Although Angry Dragons utilizes a popular theme, studio GameArt has taken a different approach in terms of the design, going beyond the boundaries of a standard formula. There aren’t any familiar Chinese symbols on the reels that we are used to seeing in most similar-styled games, and the background here showcases an epic showdown between two golden dragons, which is a much more pleasing imagery than classic pagoda buildings, lanterns, etc. Anyway, dominating the view here is a 5×4 reel setup, where winning combinations are created across 25 fixed ways.

The slot can be played on any device, and bets from as little as £0.25 per spin are accepted. However, there aren’t many options for high-rollers, as the stakes are capped at £5. The volatility tends to the high side of the spectrum, and the RTP is decent at 96.31%, being above average. Plus, buying features boosts the value to 96.94%. What’s most impressive though is the 50,000x maximum win, which has become somewhat standard among GameArt games.

8 regular symbols appear on the reels, including classic card suits and a bunch of dragons, namely pink, green, blue, and red. All symbols pay from 3-of-a-kind and more, and matching 5 on a line pays from 1.6x to 16x the bet. Purple dragons are Wild, which stand in for any of the regulars in winning combos. Additionally, they can create combinations of their own and have the highest value among all symbols, paying up to 40x the bet.

Angry Dragons Slot Features

Gameplay-wise, Angry Dragons slot is identical to the iconic Razor Shark, so those familiar with the mentioned Push Gaming’s release should know what to expect here. The game relies heavily on the Nudging Mystery Symbols, or Mystery Gold Parchment as they call them here. These symbols are available on all reels and always land in stacks of four, and after the reels stop, the Reveal feature is triggered. Between spins, Mystery symbols nudge down by one position until they reach the bottom position and leave the reels completely.

All visible Mystery symbols reveal the same randomly selected regular symbol or a Golden Dragon. Each Golden Dragon, in turn, can reveal either a Scatter symbol or one of the coin symbols, which award random cash awards, as follows:

  • Bronze Coin – pays 1x, 2x, or 5x the bet.
  • Silver Coin – pays 10x, 25x, or 50x the bet.
  • Gold Coin – pays 100x, 250x, 500x, 1,000x, 2,000x, or 2,500x the bet.

Whenever 3 or more Scatter symbols appear in view, the Free Spins feature comes into play. Before the free games kick off, players are given a selection of three different posters, which they need to pick to reveal the total win multiplier value for the bonus, ranging between 1x – 10x.

The free spins feature begins with reels 2 and 4 covered with Mystery stacks. There’s no limit on how many spins you can get, as the feature lasts until there is at least one Mystery symbol in view. Landing a dragon claw symbol during the bonus nudges up the visible Mystery stacks by one position.

Players can access the bonus immediately via the Buy Feature. The cost is fixed at 100x the current bet, and the feature comes with an increased RTP value.

Review Summary

Razor Shark made serious waves among slot enthusiasts all over the globe when it came out, and there have been numerous copycats trying to follow the same winning formula, but no one has ever reached the same level of success. GameArt’s Angry Dragons slot is a decent competitor, but what’s actually the point of switching to this one if it offers the exact same gameplay experience? There’s surely entertainment to be found for those who can’t get enough of China and dragons, but it offers nothing new to appeal to players not really into the theme.
